End Laptop Poverty
Bridging the Digital Divide
CONTEXT
In Autumn 2020, Revolt uncovered a startling statistic: 1.78 million children in the UK lacked a laptop for schoolwork. This issue, exacerbated by the pandemic, highlighted the urgent need for digital devices to ensure educational access.
THE PROBLEM
Despite this lack of access to devices, 14,000 unused laptops are obscured in households across the UK.
THE SOLUTION
To address this problem, Revolt launched a campaign to encourage the public to donate their unused laptops. Partnering with a network of charities already refurbishing devices, we created the "End Laptop Poverty" initiative and directed people to their local organisations.
We collaborated with the Department for Opportunities to secure corporate donations and lobbied the government for support, resulting in an open letter published by ITV and The Guardian.
As lockdown restrictions tightened, we intensified our campaign with national outdoor advertising, a partnership with Joe Media, and a powerful projection onto the Houses of Parliament.
THE OUTCOME
◉ 50% increase in donations to participating charities
◉ Over 1,107 laptops were distributed to children, potentially boosting their lifetime earnings by £100,000 each
◉ Winne of the Drum Awards Design For Good category
